"In his speech at meetings, conversations with colleagues and parents and students, you can always see his focus is on what is in the best interest of the African-American students. An African-American student is graduating from a local college and is considering U.Va. and Harvard for graduate study. A lot of us at U.Va. would love to have this wonderful, talented student. But Dean Turner reminds that student of what is best for him: 'We'd love to have you, but you need to look at the programs and consider what will work out best for your own future.'"
-Peter Yu, assistant dean, UVa Office of African-American Affairs
